Frequently Asked Questions
Is workplace health and safety training legally required in South Africa?
Yes. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), employers must provide employees with the information, instruction and training needed to work safely. If someone is formally appointed to a safety role (for example First Aider or OHS Representative), they must be properly trained for that responsibility. Training is not optional where risk exists.
